Injury or overuse can cause scar tissue to develop around muscles, resulting in limited mobility and even pain. If you’re experiencing a reduced range of motion, pain, or even loss of strength, movement based massage treatments can provide much-needed relief. Using a state-of-the-art soft tissue massage technique known as the Active Release Technique (ART), Dr. Bomberg can treat problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves gently and effectively.

Also referred to as movement based massage, ART can quickly resolve many common issues, including headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow. While these issues may all be very different from one another, they are all typically caused by a buildup of scar tissue.

Through a membership program and ongoing training, Dr. Tom Bomberg can offer all the benefits of ART therapy at an advanced level. To stay certified and able to provide this exclusive form of massage therapy, he spends 16 hours in training each year.

The Problem With Scar Tissue

Scar tissue can have a significant impact on your range of motion and overall comfort. As scar tissue develops, tissues that could once move freely may become restricted. Over time, your muscle strength may decline, nerves can become trapped within scar tissue, and painful problems such as tendonitis can occur. These hidden issues surface as symptoms, including reduced mobility, pain, loss of muscle strength, and even tingling or numbness.

With ART, Dr. Bomberg can provide highly targeted treatments that focus on the affected areas. A simple yet thorough examination of the soft tissue allows him to pinpoint a wide array of issues that can have a major impact on your overall health and comfort.

The Active Release Technique

A combination of manual adjustments and movement based massage can provide you with lasting relief from pain caused by injury or overuse. In many cases, abnormal or damaged tissue can remain undetected for extended periods of time and eventually result in injury. During an ART therapy session, Dr. Bomberg will both examine and treat the soft tissue to gently correct problems using precise movements.

Tissues, including muscles, ligaments, nerves, and tendons, are evaluated based on their texture, mobility, and tightness. If an abnormality is detected in a specific area, it is treated with carefully applied tension and movements.

Symptoms & Issues We Address With ART
