Many of us have been told we have bad posture. We remember our mom’s hounding us to sit up straight and not to slouch. Well, after spending hundreds both discussing posture with patients as well as things I find to work well for me personally. I will share with you today 3 of the most effective ways to improve your posture.
Here are Dr. Bomberg’s 3 quick, easy and effective ways to get better posture:
1. Reminders. If you are a Corporate Athlete, who spends 8+ hours a day at work, you have noticed how much worse your posture is at the end of the day compared to the beginning of the day. A Sticky Note with one simple word, “POSTURE” can help you remember to sit up straight and be more aware when you are sitting poorly.
2. Wall Checks. I love these and do them throughout the day. All you need is a wall to check. Put your heels against the wall. If your posture is on point, your heels, butt, upper back and back of the head should all be touching the wall at the same time. If any of these areas are not touching the wall, correct your posture until all 4 points are touching. Then take a step away from the wall, and very slightly slouch. That posture is something you can sustain throughout the day.
3. Wear a Posture Brace. Now, this is not something you would want to wear all day every day, but if you are really struggling to make the changes, this is a very easy thing to do. What you would do is either use a long scarf and drape it around your neck. Then cross it behind your back and pull ends forward and that will draw your shoulders backward.
Those are my quick and easy tips to help make a change in your posture. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call or email if you have any further questions.
