Chiropractors, physical therapy, massage therapy, orthopedic surgeons, etc… With so many different specialists and treatment types out there, it is important for you to know what you are getting with each one. I hope after you read this you will know more about what chiropractors do and how they can help you feel better.

My main goal as a chiropractor is to locate and correct subluxations. A subluxation is a partially separation of the articular surface of the joint. In plain words, when two bones are suppose to line up well and don’t, that is a subluxation. Why are subluxations bad you ask? If the joint is not lining up well, it also is not moving well. That affects everything in your body; skeleton, muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, blood flow, and organs. It’s critical that when these subluxations are detected they are corrected effectively and efficiently.

Learning how a healthy joint functions can help illustrate how damaging an unhealthy joint can be. Joints should be able to move and bounce. A lot like pushing into a cushion, there is give to it, that is healthy joint movement. When a joint is unhealthy (subluxated), the joint does not move. You might feel like the joint is “locked up” or not moving. You might also notice when the area is tender. No joint should hurt when it is pushed on. That is what chiropractors are trained to detect and fix.

By locating these problem areas we can help your body start the healing process. One thing people say is, “I don’t have pain, why do I need to come see you”. That is wonderful you are not in pain, but pain is the last thing to appear and the first thing to leave. The best example I know is, the day before someone has a heart attack, was that person healthy? Obviously not, but the warning sign had not occurred yet. Pain is the alarm that informs us something has gone wrong. By having a trained professional detect and correct these early triggers before the alarm goes off, we can avoid the loud alarms and help you on your path to health quicker.
